Alice in Paris Part Two

Well, the pediatric's unit is finally done and I went to the hospital to check it out and take some photos.  I wanted to show the installation of the artwork I found from Alice in Paris from Etsty.com and some interior design photos.  I think the next class I need to take is Digital Camera's for Idiots.  What the hell?  The space is really rather colorful and fun, but you wouldn't get that from these pictures.  I really liked the "feel" of the patient rooms.  These rooms look out onto a landscaped area that created a wonderful filtered light through the leaves on the trees.  Plus the "stained glass" panel I added to the window made the rooms feel serene.  A child could easily take a nap in the middle of the day without pulling the blinds and shutting out the outside.......which is one of the most therapeutic elements. 

A Thing For Barns

 

I don't think, I know I have a thing for barns. Look HERE  and HERE. While looking for artwork for a hospital we are designing a came across the wonderful photography of"Kpauli" on Flickr.  Here is the one that really caught my eye.  It is titled "White Barn, White Clouds".  I found her work while looking for photos of Central Illinois.  Central Illinois is the location of the hospital and wanted find some local artists to possibly provide artwork.  There is actually a group on Flickr that is dedicated to photos people have taken of Central Illinois.  Take a PEAK.  There are some interesting photo there.

 

 

One of the stupidest things I find myself doing is taking pictures of BARNS while driving 72 miles per hour down the hwy.  The one pictured above is my favorite.  I pass it every time I drive to Cape Girardeau for work.  It is so tidy, neat, organized and exactly what I picture a farm should be.........minus a major interstate highway in the side yard.

 

Alice In Paris

I am putting together an artwork package for the Pediatrics Unit at Southeast Missouri Hospital.  I relied a lot on Etsy Handmade for most of the artwork.  I thought I would post the woman who's artwork we are using the most of.  Her Esty name I AliceinParis and it would be worth checking her out.  She uses a lot of cats in her work......which is close to my heart, click HERE  The artwork pictured here is called "All is Well". 

Dinner Auction Update

Okay my last big hurdle to get over in the month of April was the St. Ann Dinner Auction.  I posted my sketch of my idea HERE and the final result is pictured above.  It is amazing what you can do with a roll of art paper, some tempera paint and two art teachers on spring break with nothing to do put paint the black flowers I traced for them!  I think I spent about $150 on supplies and most of the cost was replacing some of the glass vases that broke since we used them last year.  I don't know why it is so hard to take a no-flash photo with my camera.  If you don't have a tripod or hands of steel, good luck trying to take "moody" shoots.  Sorry for the few and far between posts.  I am glad April is almost over.....Exam....check........50th surprise party.......check.........Dinner Auction.........check........sit on my butt and have a margarita.......check.

Fun with Glass Mosaics

I thought I would give you a little peek into the main feature of one of my current projects.  It is for a Pediatrics Unit at Southeast Missouri Hospital and the contractor is about 50% complete.  The glass mosaic mural measures 17' x 7' (what your are looking at is just a portion of the wall) and will be placed behind the nurses station.  The same glass mosaic design will be wrapped around two large, round columns in the unit as well.  I can't wait to see the completed project.  There are a lot of cool details and products used.  I will post pictures as soon as it is installed.

Here is snap shot of the pediatric patient room bathrooms.  I added various sized circles of glass mosaics into hospital standard 3" x 3" wall tiles.  The wall has not been grouted yet, so it is not complete, but you get the idea. I am trying to image what my kids would do if they walked into a bathroom that had sparkly circles all over it and I think they would like it, especially Stella.

Dinner Auction - Part Two

Last year was my first attempt at heading up the decorations for my church's annual fund raising dinner auction. I guess I did okay because they asked me to do it again this year.....I think it is more like, "oh thank God we found someone to do the decorations".  Seriously, I do enjoy it.  It helps me meet more people in the parish and it is for a good cause; the school.  Click HERE to see last year's design.  I have to admit that I have not spent much, if any, time on it other than thoughts running through my head.  I did make a sketch of The Column design and got approval from the ladies in charge of the auction.  They are very hip, cool moms of young children that attend the school.  There really isn't much to decorate in the space other than The Columns, so that is where most of the effort is placed.  Again, the budget for supplies is tight, like right around $250, so I have to be a little creative on supplies.  The columns will be made of green rolls of paper painted with black Tord Boontje type graphics with vertical "stripes" of white Christmas lights hanging from the top.  Depending on the budget, I would like to buy some white tulle and hang it like a sheer curtain around the entire column to make it a little softer.  Some ideas I have in my head for the table center pieces involve decorative cabbage, tulle and candles.  I'll send pictures after the auction, which is Arpil 26th.

Final Shots

Here are some final shots of an Administration Area of Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.  I also included some before shots.  I think it helps to see where a space has been in order to appreciate it's transformation. 

I just got a call from Miss Cathy, my children's "teacher".  I like to refer to daycare as "school" to my kids.  I think it helps me feel less guilty.  Anyway, my Dainty Flower most likely has an ear infection so I have to drop everything at work and go get her.  I will add a little more detail later.

Progress of Progress

I just made a trip to Springfield, Illinois to check the progress of a project under construction.   I just love the construction phase of projects because you get to see your ideas come to life.  I thought I would post some before and "during" photos of this project.  It will be done in 3 phases.  What you are seeing are photos of phase one.  This phase includes conference rooms and executive offices.  It has been approximately 20 years since the interiors of these spaces have been touched so they were in desperate need of an upgrade.  I should have the final photos by the end of October. 

The "Eyes" Have It

Sorry for such a gap between my postings.  I have two children under 2 1/2 years old and I just can't keep them healthy!  So I have been playing catch up for the last couple of weeks.  With that said, I am excited to share another current project with everyone.  This is a design is for an Ophthalmologist Plastic Surgeon.  He is expanding into a new office space, in a new office building and wanted a new image that would work for him until his retirement.  There will be a variety of spa services offered as well as elective services, so the finish palette needed to compliment that type of clientele.  I have a very neutral background of maple woods, warm cream walls that will be punched with warm melon orange, brown khaki and crystal blue.  For first impressions, I will be inserting a bold stylized graphic "peacock feather" fabric mixed with orange mohair, crystal blue texture on wood framed waiting furniture.  This new office will be a compete 180 degree turn from the doctor's existing space and it should be very "eye catching"......sorry, I couldn't help it.

Doctor's Oasis

I thought I would post the approved finishes for a client's private office in Effingham, Illinois........one of my rural trips I enjoy so much (see my post below).  He wants his new space to be an oasis where he can work in private, nap or sleep if working late hours and hold professional patient meetings.  I thought I would put up a sneak peak of the finishes.  Of course you can't see the true richness of the mohair or leather, but I am excited to see this completed.  It should be a great space for him.  I also included a snap shot of the very cool desk he decided on as well.  I promise to post the final photos of the project, showing before and after shots.
